Costayaco Forestry Centre: An Expanding Reforestation Initiative
Established by Gran Tierra Energy in 2010, in coordination with the regional environmental regulator Corpoamazonia, the Costayaco Forestry Centre (CFC) started with the purchase of a small piece of land for reforestation. In 2020, the Centre expanded by 47% to a total area of 314.5 hectares of land in the Putumayo department. The CFC produced over 22,500 seedlings and donated over 11,200 trees to local communities and educational centres in 2020 alone.
Since the opening of the CFC in 2010, over 200,300 trees in 71 different species have been planted, sustainably contributing to GTE’s ongoing reforestation efforts in the region. The Centre also works to increase environmental awareness by providing educational opportunities about the importance of protecting the forests and environment.
Total number of trees planted since the Costayaco Forestry Centre opened in 2010:
Over 51,000 Over 200,000 Over 55,000
