2018 Corporate Responsibility Report
At the heart of the company’s efforts to engage communities is the company’s philosophy of “Beyond Compliance.” First and foremost, Gran Tierra fulfills all of its legal obligations across all of its operations areas. But as a multinational operator, GTE has chosen to voluntarily add
a layer to its Corporate Responsibility efforts by using some of its resources to generate sustainable development in
the localities and regions where it operates.
GTE recognized that many of the communities near its operations have significant needs that the company may be able to help fulfill through strategic social investments. It is important that community neighbours understand that GTE consider them to be important stakeholders and that the company has ingrained in its corporate culture a desire to benefit local communities. For GTE, trust, transparency and partnership are the building blocks of productive operating environments which can then benefit everyone involved.
Gran Tierra’s social efforts are based on assessments of community needs which begin with meetings with the communities. GTE seeks to align its priorities with local, regional and national government priorities. Alignment like this is critical as it can amplify impact.
“People throughout the company have really responded to our corporate philosophy and are excited to show how they can go beyond compliance in their work. As a result, this philosophy is being expanded and converted into new policy, processes and projects every day.” – Ana Saavedra, Social Manager
